The Nightingale
03:54
|
|||
The little brown nightingale
would fly around, among
the flowers that grew in her path,
their nectar on her tongue
she'd let a feather fall
into the brook below
and it would float upstream
some treasure for a child
the little sweet nightingale
she travelled on through the dark
she'd promised she'd be there
before the sun showed face
the other birds settled down
into their nests for the night
the wind it howled up a gale
but she thought only of him
and now,
she's learnt, learnt how to give
for how can she love
and stay, stay bright and free?
The stony graves caught her eye
she waited cold on the tomb of a friend
who knew as well as she
her love would never arrive,
not he
he heart beat fast with the drops
of glistening rain on the leaves
yeah it beat so fast all the while
the blood poured out from her chest
and now,
she's learnt, learnt how to give
for how can she love,
and stay, stay bright and free?

Famous Last Words
04:50
|
|||
Today I noticed something strange
the only way to stay alive is to give
your name away
to give your name to a child
the only way to stay awake
the only way to measure time is to look
out the window
to stare, into space.
It's no wonder we wont go down in history
no-one will know
famous last words always sounded
better living in your mouth
the only way to keep you safe
is to draw every part of your grace
walking along,
before, before, you know I've seen
and every line of written verse
could not keep your sweet little bones
from the earth
unless I'd seen, unless I'd seen
unless I'd learnt
It's no wonder we wont go down in history
no-one will know
famous last words always sounded
better living in your mouth!
It's no wonder we wont go down in history
no-one will know
no-one ever built a castle
no-one ever married well
I'll ride, upon my horse, I'll ride away till you find me
come chase me on your horse
I want to know that you'll find me

Hold Me
03:31
|
|||
Hold me, back from the ground
I want to feel gravity fight
what he beats when he strains on my back
and what he beats when he summons my mind
my only hope was to make double sure,
secretly shut the gate behind myself
my only hope was to make double sure
secretly shut the gate behind myself
but you! stayed afloat,
yeah you always went on,
at the front of the ship
like a figurehead
bringing good luck to your brothers, the men
while I stayed at home
and I cried with their wives
my only hope was to make double sure
secretly shut the gate behind myself
my only hope was to make double sure
secretly shut the gate behind myself
and your only hope was to lie on the floor
cos you're too afraid of what would happen if we fall
your only hope was the lie on the floor
cos you're too afraid of what will happen
when we fall.
