about

Raindance is a song I recorded with producer and old friend of mine Benjamin Gregory in my bedroom in Berlin. We used my first old Casio (that no longer works), electric guitar through an old Schaller amp from the 60s, bass by Ben, and Casio beats. It was a truly DIY and fun endeavour, and I'm so excited to show you - the lyrics talk about my childhood obsessions with drawing and going outside alone in the rain.

I was lucky enough to meet the founder of Havana Tapes by chance in London last Spring. He told me that he has a tape label and lives in the same area as my Grandad used to live in London.

I'm so happy that this song is being released as part of Havana Tapes' new cassette compilation: 'Falling through The Cracks' - havanatapes.bandcamp.com/music - £1 of each cassette purchase goes to the 999 Club Charity working for homeless people in London.

I am also offering it as a digital single on my page. Due to the current Corona Pandemic, I am deprived of my usual sources of income, alongside all my fellow musicians and artists. I wish compassion and solidarity to everyone right now.

lyrics

verse 1:

Never used to want to go early to bed
cos I hadn't finished all the things I wanted to do
Never used to want to do colouring in
cos I hadn't finished all my pictures of you

sometimes a dancer, sometimes a hunter, always from Russia, and wearing red shoes
sometimes a dancer, sometimes a hunter, always from Russia, and wearing red shoes

chorus:

Now I know that I cannot hide, never gonna draw the perfect line
I'm just black and white, and I'm waiting for the night
now I know that I cannot hide, never gonna draw the perfect line
I'm just black and white, and I'm never never never satisfied,

oh no, but I'm circling ever closer,
oh no, but I'm circling ever closer.

verse 2:

Never used to want to go back the way we came,
cos there's always another way that we haven't seen
never used to want to stay inside in the rain
cos there's something I love about coming back in

covered in water, cheeks glowing pink,
how I feel the most incredible things
covered in water, cheeks glowing pink,
how I know, you'll love me when you see my like this
