about

This is the first song I ever wrote. I like coming back to it sometimes.

lyrics

The little brown nightingale
would fly around, among
the flowers that grew in her path,
their nectar on her tongue

she'd let a feather fall
into the brook below
and it would float upstream
some treasure for a child

the little sweet nightingale
she travelled on through the dark
she'd promised she'd be there
before the sun showed face

the other birds settled down
into their nests for the night
the wind it howled up a gale
but she thought only of him

and now,
she's learnt, learnt how to give
for how can she love
and stay, stay bright and free?

The stony graves caught her eye
she waited cold on the tomb of a friend
who knew as well as she
her love would never arrive,
not he

he heart beat fast with the drops
of glistening rain on the leaves
yeah it beat so fast all the while
the blood poured out from her chest

and now,
she's learnt, learnt how to give
for how can she love,
and stay, stay bright and free?
